To sleep, or not to sleep...

If I had the choice, it would definitely be to sleep.  However, apparently I am not in control of that area of my brain.  I wore myself out today with two Thanksgiving dinners, came home and put part of a puzzle together, watched an episode of Castle.  Then, deciding I should try and sleep, I made myself some bedtime tea that Norma had given to me today, did a little bit of reading of the new series I started (The Promised Land - A Pillar of Fire by David G. Woolley.  I'll let you know later what I think of it.)  and then I got ready for bed and tucked myself in.  Fifteen minutes later and without an ounce of sleepiness, I got back out of bed and thought I would tend to my blog.  My body, achy and exhausted, tells me to go to bed, but my thoughts won't rest.  I've tried tiring my eyes out, but I don't think that is working.  Paul and the kids have been asleep for two hours now.  If I were at home, I would try a hot bath next, but as it were, there isn't a tub stopper in Paul's apartment, so I guess some more web surfing and a little reading is in store for the remainder of my waking hours.

Here's hoping everyone else is sleeping and not up reading this!

Thanksgiving Dinner at the Bountiful Giles'

We had an excellent Thanksgiving lunch today at Paul's Uncle Troy's house in Bountiful.  Thanksgiving dinner is one of my favorite meals to prepare.  However, I could definitely get used to not having any work involved and still having a scrumptious dinner on the table.  After lunch, half of the afternoon was spent with the kids doing things like this...

and the other half was spent with quite the marshmallow war amongst the kids (Yes, I included Paul among the kids for this sport.)  This war was complete with fortresses, marshmallow guns, and two dogs easily relieving both sides of their ammo.  (I hope it is safe for dogs to eat marshmallows.  I assume so, their owners didn't seem to worried!)

All in all, I'd say it was a day well done.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The side effects of Prednisone come in the form of the good, the bad, and the ugly.  The first day on it, the quick relief of most stiff, achy joints is awesome.  Quickly following that, (the next night) comes the inability to fall asleep.  The ugly comes later on as your body retains water and the drug affects your ability to tell you are full.  So that means an extra few pounds.  Only a few if you are on it short term, or maybe 60 lbs long term.  Good thing I'm only on it for a few weeks.  I don't think my body could handle an extra 60 lbs. again.

Jr. Jazz Basketball

Well, I have officially moved into a new phase of my life.  I am no longer the mother of toddlers.  My boys have grown up, and I'm not quite sure where all that time went!  It first hit me this year when James started first grade and entered the realm of all day school.  At first I thought, "This is great!  I am going to get so much done."  That lasted for a whole three weeks.  So now, I have reentered the work force as a Title I Math Aide for the elementary school my boys are in.  I am really loving it!

Then it hit me again, when the boys got papers sent home about Jr. Jazz Basketball.  Samuel was not in the slightest bit interested, which didn't surprise me at all.  However, James, being the athletic monkey he is, was very excited about it, so I signed him up.

His first game was tonight and it was so cute to see him in his little outfit running up and down the court, even though most of the kids really didn't know what was going on.  They had a great time, and us onlookers had some good laughs!

I know it's a little blurry, I used my phone.  But I circled where James is.  Next game, I'm going to have to take my real camera and get some better pics.

So now that he has gotten a taste for sports, I'm 110% positive he's going to want to be in whatever sport is in season.  And I'm alright with it.  He needs a way to expend all of that excess energy he has.  I don't mind being a chauffeur for that. Now only if I could find something extracurricular that Sam would enjoy!  I'd probably have to move back to the city to find something like that.  I need to find a chess partner for him!
